Waxed paper
Wax paper (or waxed paper) is a kind of paper that is made moisture proof thanks to the application of wax.
Oiling of parchment or paper in order to make it semi-transparent or moisture-proof was made long ago. Wax paper was invented in 1872, and it was cheap and efficient solution of such paper.
Wax paper is used in cooking and wrapping food for storage, as it keeps water out or in.
Another use of wax paper is to apply wax to objects. By rubbing it on an object the wax will rub off the paper and onto the object.
